digging back in memory to april. writing this from june.
unfortunately april (and may...for later) got away from me. frankly my mental took a hit in april and may that left me unmotivated to write these. but im here on june 4th trying to push through.
looking through some of the items from april is reminding me why i started doing this. to document and engage with the moments and memories that made me feel whole in that month.

april started with passover
this year i was happy to be home for the seder. we had a great bunch of friends old and new over and had a fantastic potluck meal with all of the essentials (brisket, matzos ball soup, kugel).
i love when our dining room becomes this long extended expanse of food, drink, storytelling, music, discussion. to be honest i dont find myself participating all that much. i like to observe mostly. listen. just my comfort zone. but i really do like when i can just melt into the background.
that said i did create the haggadah for seder and semi-led it..i simultaneously like providing structure. so who can be sure.
its really awesome to meet new folks who were raised jewish and talk about shared experiences and differences. the different melodies taught in our respective synagogues, watching prince of egypt when teachers didnt feel like teaching.
a really whole start to april that was.

one day in april was really busy. two birthdays and a wedding. my nephew turned 9 which was nuts to think about. as hes really growing up its exciting to see all of the little things that become interesting to him.
we then made our way to bartrams in west philly to watch friends play in a son jarocho group followed by a nice picnic for our spanish teacher (but really mostly friend)s birthday.
i really love this picture of a beautiful day. beautiful instruments abound. a wide field. blue sky. philadelphia skyline in the background. and a halal truck in the middle of the grass. really feels homelike to me.
we hurried home and dressed up and hopped on the train for our dear friends wedding. taking the train to a wedding! so great 10/10!
ive known andrew for 13ish years now which feels crazy. weve played in many a music project together and hes always a big inspiration. i also play dnd with him and his (now wife) hailey which is such fun. i guess our relationship is very based on play.

my field recording workshop continued on in april with a visit to the wissahickon.
there were some really lovely sounds of spring wet rain pitter pattering the surroundings.

looking back now i see a quote from a book im reading on sound making:
and of curse when its over, it keeps going. what do i do with that now, how much do i allow myself to change: what should remain, what will i contemplate further, what comes next. do i want to be in form or out of form. am i in good shape?
hm

anywho. a couple more bips and bops from the month.
i got my home music corner setup a bit more nicely. while i share studio space with folks i do really find myself loving my own cozy corner to leisurely create in. that said. i should probably get out more.
i took over a meal prep client for rachel in april and it was a lot of fun to just focus on cooking for someone for a few hours. salmon + bok choy. steak + rice noodles. a nice change of pace from my usual job.
i dont have an april playlist (i got off that habit and really was just listening a lot on bandcamp i think.
a few album i listened to a lot
an assortment of jazz-adjacent with some electronic afrobeat in there. enjoy those.
additionally - i started rock climbing. so thats very fun.
im likely missing some things but thats what i have for now. ill try to get back in the swing of things. get may up later today or tomorrow.
thanks for being here.
